Getting Back to Watercolor

Like an old friend…

I’m working with the last box of art supplies from a 3-month subscription I signed up for with sketchbook. Each month has been a set of new art supplies and this month it’s watercolor. I did some water color painting in college, but that was many years ago!

I experimented with a reference photo of mine. Wasn’t happy with the first, so tried the second. I challenged myself working in such a small size (that’s the paper that came with the box).

I continue to work on simplifying. I look at the details too quickly and I think a daily practice will help me start to break what I see down into larger shapes before I immediately refine.

This was fun though, and I still have one more painting to do. The kit came with one sheet of paper sketched with a hummingbird as the main project. I’ll share that once I finish it.
